Both start at 70 cents, the US IRS standard rate for business miles in 2025. That figure is meant to cover fuel, wear, insurance and the car losing value. The rate changes each year, so check the current one. An older, paid-off car may really cost you less.

    What this cannot tell you

    • What your own car really costs a mile. The standard rate is an average for all cars. Yours depends on its age, its fuel use and what repairs cost you.
    • Your actual tax bill. The tax lines are an estimate to set money aside by, using US rules for self-employed people and the income tax rate you gave. They leave out state taxes, credits, other income and other deductions.
    • Miles you did not write down. The page records what you enter; it does not track your phone or your car.

The formulas are G1 on the formulas page.
